CPD Director Participates in Two International Conferences in Europe
CPD Director Philip Seib participated in a conference in Dublin called Terrorism and New Media: Building a Research Network Sept. 8 and 9. Co-sponsored by the USC Center on Public Diplomacy and the Centre for International Studies, Dublin City University, the conference brought together academics from a range of disciplines with policymakers and security practitioners with knowledge or expertise that can facilitate advances in the study of terrorism and new media. Seib was a plenary speaker and addressed the role of public diplomacy in counterterrorism efforts. Click here for conference details.
Seib is also participating in the Global Media and the 'War on Terror': an international conference in London Sept. 13 and 14. Organized by the Communication and Media Research Institute of the University of Westminster in London, and the Department of Media and Communications, Goldsmiths, University of London, the conference is gathering subject matter experts from the field to evaluate media's relationship to the current geopolitical environment and to pose questions about media performance and influence in this post-9/11 period.

-Representations of terrorism in popular culture – from TV to gaming
-Hollywoodization and Bollywoodization of the 'war on terror'
-Evaluating the 'al-Jazeera effect'
