Gary Hart Joins CPD Advisory Board

The USC Center on Public Diplomacy is pleased to welcome former U.S. Senator and author, Gary Hart, to its Advisory Board.

Hart served as U.S. Senator representing the State of Colorado from 1975 to 1987, never before having sought public office. He is the author of 21 books, including his Oxford doctoral thesis, Restoration of the Republic: The Jeffersonian Ideal in 21st Century America.

After retiring from office, Hart was an advisor to the U.S. Department of State, where he was chair of the International Security Advisory Board and U.S. Envoy to Northern Ireland; and the U.S. Department of Defense, where he was co-chair of the Commission on U.S. National Security for the 21st Century.

He is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University, Yale Divinity School, Yale Law School, and Oxford University, where he earned a doctorate (D.Phil.) in 2001.

“We are honored and delighted to welcome Gary to the CPD Advisory Board,” said CPD Advisory Board Chair Barry A. Sanders.  “His experience in the U.S. Senate, decades of distinguished public service, and thought leadership as an author will greatly enhance our Center’s work, as we continue to grow and enrich the field of public diplomacy.”
