NEW: Summer Issue of PDiN Monitor

The latest issue of PDiN Monitor focuses on public diplomacy at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The Games are not only an opportunity for nations to showcase the best of their athletic talent, but to also demonstrate their soft power.

In this issue's PD Feature Article, British Public Diplomacy and the Olympic Games, British Consul-General Dame Barbara Hay discusses the public diplomacy strategy the UK developed as host of the Olympics, and in particular how the British Consulate in Los Angeles tailored its public diplomacy activities to the Western states under its remit.

In the PDiN Spotlight article, The Role of California in the 2012 Olympic Games, CPD Advisory Board Member and Chairman of the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games Barry Sanders examines California as a prominent player in the Olympics, and the soft power the state has garnered as a major source of athletic talent for the United States.

The conversation around the Games is continued in The Participation of Saudi Women in the Olympic Games by Dr. Haifa Reda Jamal Al-Lail, President of Effat University, the premier university for women in Saudi Arabia. In her article, she discusses the inclusion of female athletes on Saudi Arabia's Olympic team for the first time.

Lastly, two Master of Public Diplomacy students, Sulagna Misra and Kia Hays, chronicle their experience attending the Games through their tours of the Olympic Houses in Exploring the London 2012 National Hospitality Houses.
