"First of all, Anatolia is a special place between the continents of Asia, Europe, and Africa. It was always an important place for the Romans, for the Greeks, Arabs, Iranians, and Russians. If a country is located in such a special place, it needs a special foreign policy to protect its interests and to maintain its relations with the neighboring regions.
Rudd must charm India
KEVIN Rudd has a lot to do in India in his very short visit this week...But most of all he has to counter the colossal loss in Australian soft power involved in the publicity from the series of assaults on Indian students in Melbourne and Sydney. It would be difficult to overstate the enormous damage to Australia's reputation in India. It is the harder to bear because it results so entirely from policy failures by the commonwealth and Victorian governments.

Families across the country are opening their doors to high school exchange students interested in spending either a semester or an academic year in America. Organizations such as the STS Foundation accept applications from students in more than 40 countries around the world and find a compatible family for them to stay with in America.
Gration and Power answer activists’ questions on Sudan
Last week, the State Department partnered with two U.S.-based advocacy organizations (Save Darfur and STAND) to launch AskUS -- a web 2.0 initiative to connect the Obama administration with citizen activists. More than 500 citizens emailed and used the Twitter hashtag #AskUS to submit questions on Sudan policy that they wanted Save Darfur to ask; students around the country voted online for the questions they wanted answered.
Mason Faculty Members Take Basketball to India
Two Mason faculty members are currently traveling in India as part of a U.S. Department of State cultural exchange program meant to develop awareness of basketball in the country. The trip is funded by an International Sports Initiative grant. The grant, awarded through the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, will fund a multipart plan meant to provide a formative experience in the lives of participating Indian boys and girls.
Three UB Students Receive Fulbright Student Scholarships for 2009-10
Three University at Buffalo students were awarded Fulbright student scholarships for the 2009-10 academic year and are abroad studying and contributing to the health and education systems of other countries. Meghana Gadgil, Katherine Cumberland and Catherine Dunning are among the more than 1,500 U.S. citizens who will study, teach or research abroad as Fulbright scholars this academic year.
Australia is confused about the difference between international broadcasting and public diplomacy
First, Australia must decide if it wants its international television channel to be a news station or a public diplomacy station. Which is the same thing as deciding whether it wants its international television channel to have an audience or not. This is because a channel devoted to public diplomacy won't have an audience, or at least not much of an audience.
