In August 2007, the Australian Senate’s Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade published a report entitled ‘Australia’s public diplomacy: building our image’. This report gave a thorough overview of Australian cultural diplomacy across all sectors and presented a set of recommendations to the government aimed at improving Australia’s cultural diplomacy strategies. Important to the success of such strategies is the recognition of pervading stereotypes in the target country, as well as a clear picture of the image of Australia that should replace this stereotype.
