North Korea's Futures

A CPD co-sponsored program with the USC East Asian Studies Center

Professor Andrei Lankov of Kookmin University in Seoul is one the world’s leading specialists on North Korea. A historian by training, his groundbreaking research on the early years and subsequent development of the North Korean ruling sustem appeared in his books, From Stalin to Kim Il Sung: The Formation of North Korea, 1945-1960  and Crisis in North Korea: The Failure of De-Stalinization, 1956. He writes a column for The Korea Times and other media outlets, and is frequently interviewed for South Korean news programs and PBS documentaries. His latest book, The Real North Korea: Life and Politics in the Failed Stalinist Utopia, connects North Korea’s current conditions to its historical development, analyzes the significance of major recent changes, prepare for future outcomes.
