CPD Advisory Board Member Honored at the Shanghai International Film Festival

CPD Advisory Board Member and CEO of Phoenix Pictures Mike Medavoy received an Outstanding Achievement Award at the 15th Shanghai International Film Festival at its opening gala on June 16 2012.

Medavoy has deep roots in Shanghai, the city where he was born in 1941 to Ukrainian Jewish refugees and where he lived for nearly 7 years. He is currently developing film and television versions of The Cursed Piano, a four-decade love story about a European immigrant pianist and his Chinese lover set partially in the Jewish communities of pre-revolutionary Shanghai. His partner on these projects is the Shanghai Film Group.

Upon accepting the award, Medavoy told the audience, "The 50 years I've spent in Hollywood all started in cinemas here in Shanghai." He recalled his father saying that "This was the place that saved our lives." He added, "For that, I'm grateful... I will come back again and again."
