CPD Conference Spotlight: LA's Polish Film Festival

In this CPD video, Vladek Juszkiewicz discusses the ten-day-long Polish Film Festival in Los Angeles designed to introduce Polish culture and cinema to Hollywood film-makers. The sixty films featured at the festival have included films produced both inside Poland as well as elsewhere in the world by or about the Polish diaspora. Juszkiewicz believes that if filmmakers become more educated about a certain culture, they will make better and more informed decisions in their future productions.

In addition to educating the audience about Polish history and culture, these festivals can bring people together to embrace their similarities and differences and consequently let go of hostility towards other cultures. Vladek Juszkiewicz sees this more as an opportunity for collaboration rather than about competition.

Mr. Juszkiewicz was a guest speaker at the USC Center on Public Diplomacy’s Conference, A New Era in Cultural Diplomacy held in February 2014. To learn more about other topics discussed at the conference, click here.
