A prize is awarded annually for the book that has made the most substantial and original contribution to knowledge in the area of European Studies. The organization awards an annual book prize to the book that has made the most substantial and original contribution to knowledge in the area of contemporary European Studies. UACES said the following about the book:

For the judges the strength of the book was that it sought to link middle range European integration concepts and the work on policy networks with a rigorous analysis of the operational side of the development of the CFSP, CSDP and internal security and thus is a more coherent evaluation that bridges existing works to a greater degree. It displays very strong evidence of good primary research with a wealth of interview material and stays resolutely on message in its application of the notion of 'epistemic communities'.
