Mona Haydar: Empowering the “Hijabi”

Mona Haydar is a Syrian-American woman who wants to show that feminism and wearing a hijab are not mutually exclusive. Her new music video "Hijabi" starts off with rap lyrics reciting common questions asked of women who wear the hijab, while she and the other dancers proudly tout their headscarves. Though the video focuses on empowering those who choose to wear a hijab, Haydar's cause goes further: "I want to be able to inspire young girls and let them know that they can look and dress any way they want to and still be relevant and current," she says.
