Western Maine now has local coordinators working to promote “public diplomacy” through the hosting of high school students from 45 countries.

The U.S. Department of State announced a new partnership with the Association of American Voices...Known as American Music Abroad, this people-to-people exchange will feature a wide variety of American musical genres through international cultural exchange initiatives that will reach more than 40 countries around the world.

As part of America`s "smart power diplomacy" initiative, 15 American artists and collaborative artist teams will visit 15 countries including India to engage in people-to-people diplomacy through the visual arts.

Each year, about a quarter of a million Americans study abroad. For many of them, a summer or a semester in a foreign country involves more than just sitting in classrooms and hanging out with other American students. Instead, they are required to be involved in the local communities where they are studying.

India has offered to train Afghan police to help them prevent future terrorist attacks in a move likely to be seen as highly provocative by long-time rival Pakistan. India has long maintained that its support for Afghanistan is civilian in nature and driven by what its officials call “civilisational links”.

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) launched the “Dance With Us: Motion Across Cultures” Photo Contest on its ExchangesConnect online community today. ECA asks that participants capture the way people express themselves through movement around the world.

China's most celebrated operatic export Tian Hao Jiang's "I Sing Beijing" is a summer program bringing some 20 promising young professionals from the U.S., Europe and South America to China to learn to sing in Mandarin, a program that will culminate with a gala concert at the National Centre for the Performing Arts on August 18.
