David McDougall holds a Masters in Global Media and Communications, a joint program taught by the London School of Economics and USC's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.
His research focuses on new media communication networks and their use by insurgent political movements, including activist use of social media and the interactions between social movements, blogs and mainstream media. He was awarded Distinction on his LSE dissertation, The Journalistic Identities of Liveblogging, A Case Study: Reporting the 2009 Post-Election Protests in Iran.
Additionally, his writings on film, and on the political qualities of cinematic minimalism in particular, have been published and cited in some of the world's top film publications. McDougall graduated with High Honors from Wesleyan University in 2002 with a double major in Film Studies and the interdisciplinary College of Letters program. Prior to graduate school, he worked as a television producer of sports, news, and documentary content for various national networks in the U.S. Currently, he works as a business development consultant in new media.
