UN ‘Orange the World’ Kicks Off Activism to Fight Gender-Based Violence

New Starting Point for China-Latin American Cultural Exchange

The Chinese leader hailed the progress in bilateral cultural exchange that he said shortens the distance between the peoples who share similar experiences of suffering foreign aggression and social turmoil. Chinese Literature in Africa: Meaningful or Simply Ceremonial?

Sino-African relations have garnered a great deal of public interest in recent decades. Commentary tends to focus on trade, economic investment and aid and is often negative in tone. Based on interviews I conducted in Benin in early 2015, culture is perceived as the most positive aspect of the relationship. Cultural exchange is a crucial domain of interaction, and one in which China is investing heavily.

The Maturing Indonesia-Singapore Partnership

This visit had a clear purpose of accelerating economic collaboration between Indonesia and Singapore. Not only was this investment trend taken up a notch during Lee’s trip, including the establishment of an Indonesia-Singapore business council to boost cooperation, but greater emphasis was also placed on diversifying Singapore’s traditional investment destinations of Jakarta and Batam.

How a Visionary Aid Organization is Using Technology to Help Refugees

Former British Foreign Secretary David Miliband flew from his home in New York to the Greek city of Mytilene, on the rocky east coast of Lesbos, an island in the Aegean Sea. It was the fall of 2015, and Lesbos had for months been the primary landing point for refugees fleeing wars in Syria and Iraq. Now the steady flow was becoming a deluge—as many as 3,000 refugees a day. Local officials were overwhelmed.
