KEEP READINGU.S. and Saudi Arabia: Common Interests, Tensions
Anthony H. Cordesman, the Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), has published a new report. His piece, "Saudi Arabia and the United States: Common Interests and Continuing Sources of Tension," appeared March 2016 on the CSIS website. The report reflects on seven decades of diplomatic relations between the United States and Saudi Arabia, and unpacks the significance of their cooperation in today’s geopolitical environment, noting the “complex threats posed by Iran, ISIS, civil wars, and political upheavals in the region.” Cordesman concludes the piece with a look at how both nations can strengthen not only bilateral ties, but also their relationship to other Gulf states. The full report is available here.
