CPD Director Addresses Chinese Public Diplomacy in Beijing and Shanghai

May 29, 2012 - CPD Director Philip Seib addressed issues related to China’s public diplomacy in speaking engagements and meetings with Chinese scholars, students, and practitioners during a two-week visit to Beijing and Shanghai. In Beijing, Seib spoke as part of the “Distinguished Speakers” program at the Carnegie-Tsinghua Center for Global Policy (CTC), where he emphasized the importance of public diplomacy to China’s rapidly expanding global diplomatic efforts.

While in Beijing, Seib also participated in various meetings, lectures, and activities, speaking at the Charhar Institute - Clingendael Public Diplomacy Forum on China-Europe-US public diplomacy and meeting with Chinese media representatives from Xinhua News Agency, China News Network for discussions about China’s global media and soft power strategy. Seib also met with public diplomacy officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered remarks at the Beijing Foreign Affairs University, and met with U.S. public diplomacy officials at the American Embassy in Beijing.

In Shanghai, Seib spoke with students and professors at Fudan University regarding China’s media and public diplomacy strategy, spoke at a seminar on Chinese public diplomacy at the Chunqiu Institute, and met with representatives of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies.
