NEW: PDiN Monitor, April/May Issue

The April/May issue of PDiN Monitor focuses on the BRICS Countries and Public Diplomacy. The use of public diplomacy by the five emerging global powers varies from nation to nation, making for an interesting analysis of how public diplomacy functions as a group and separately for the BRICS countries.

In this issue's PD Feature Article, General Coordinator of the BRICS Policy Center Adriana Erthal Abdenur discusses challenges to BRICS countries' public diplomacy efforts by contrasting the public diplomacy of Brazil and China.

The PDiN Spotlight article tackles the BRICS by highlighting Brazil's soft power. Peter Hakim, President Emeritus and Senior Fellow of Inter-American Dialogue, challenges Brazil's need for public diplomacy in "Starpower Trumps Diplomacy".

The conversation of the role of public diplomacy in BRICS countries continues with three more articles. Another view of Brazil's public diplomacy is offered by Aleksandra Ristovic, Master of Public Diplomacy (MPD) Candidate, in her piece "Brazil's Soft Power and Dilma's Dilemma."

Alexey Dolinskiy makes observations on Russia's recent activity in the realm of global media in "Russia's Evolving International Image."

Lastly, MPD candidate Alex Laverty explores the regional effects of the BRICS membership on the groups' newest member, South Africa in "South Africa's Lack of Public Diplomacy Negates BRICS Membership Benefits on the Continent."
