China and Japan should give public diplomacy a chance rather than rely only on the official channels to help resolve their conflict over the ownership of Diaoyu Islands, Chinese scholars say.

The European Union (EU) has long been one of the leading international actors in recognizing the potential of cities as agents of global governance. Fostering a variety of initiatives through the Committee of Regions, which acts as the EU’s assembly of regional and local representatives, Europe has promoted the participation of cities in regional and international governance since its early days.

Fort Bend County political and business leaders recently welcomed delegates from the city of Foshan, Chancheng District, China, to sign a second Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two communities.

The Japanese media showed images of huge crowds throwing bottles and eggs at the Japanese embassy in Beijing as they chanted nationalistic slogans. Television stations also carried lengthy reports from inside a Japanese-owned mall -- elsewhere in China -- which was slowly being surrounded by increasingly violent demonstrators. Though life has continued as normal across Japan, many Japanese people are increasingly troubled by the dispute.

A China library opened within Tanzania's national library in the African nation's capital of Dar es Salaam on Monday. The China library is a part of the Experience China in Tanzania program, a large cultural exchange initiated by China's State Council's Information Office.

Chinese nationalists have for over a week now staged nationwide demonstrations against Japan which turned violent in some cities. The two countries are locked in a decades-old conflict over the ownership of a group of islets in the East China Sea, called in Chinese Diaoyu and Japanese Senkaku.

The Hong Kong Space Museum and Chabot Space & Science Centre in the United States (US) have achieved their first collaboration in launching the Digital Skies Student Partnership project, enabling students from the two places to learn about Western and Chinese culture as well as their respective developments in astronomy.

Recently, the Confucius Peace Prize released the nominators for this year's prize, the awarding ceremony of which will be held on December 9. This prize has been sponsored by a Chinese non-governmental organization, the "China International Peace Research Center" since 2011.
