Cultural Diplomacy

Iran and Portugal have signed a cultural agreement to boost and reinforce bilateral cultural relations.  Pointing to the 500-year-old relationship between Iran and Portugal, the Iranian culture minister said, “This relation is unique and needs to be reinforced, and this cultural agreement helps promote the ties.”

President Obama’s initiative to begin normalizing relations with Cuba provides optimum conditions for CubaSkate, a D.C./L.A. based NGO which delivers skateboards to Cuban youth and promotes dialogue between the two countries with blessing from the Cuban government. 

Another major voice in Pakistan questioning the national narratives has been that of the Ajoka Theatre group. Ajoka (meaning “dawn of a new day” in Punjabi) gave three performances in Washington, D.C., this past weekend, presented by the Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics and the Department of Performing Arts at Georgetown University. These performances were part of the laboratory’s two-year Myriad Voices Festival that aims to expand awareness and understanding about Muslim societies through the performing arts.

France has ratified an intergovernmental agreement with Azerbaijan on the establishment of cultural centers between the two countries.  The MPs noted the importance of this agreement in expanding bilateral and cultural relations between the two sides.

The diplomat emphasized the importance of arranging Belarus-India cultural events, soirees and exhibitions. In an interview with BelTA, the Indian Ambassador noted that the year 2015 will be very fruitful for the bilateral cooperation. The year will mark a number of important visits and a session of the Belarus-India intergovernmental commission for trade and economy. 

The first forum of Cooperation between Universities in Sudan and Turkey was convened in the framework of reinforcing the scientific and cultural relations between the two countries.  It targeted active participation in achieving the renaissance and qualifying teaching staff members and students in the Universities.
