The house has held exhibitions of work by the students of Prague's Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, as well as students of the Prague British School. The Václav Havel Library held a two-day international seminar on the grounds during which participants discussed philosophical issues connected with the concept of human rights in today's "post-European" world.

These days, Soviet-style samizdat is doing the rounds at the Prague headquarters of Radio Free Europe/ Radio Liberty. It is a press release on the letter to Croatian government by Snjezana Pelivan, a Croatian journalist living in Prague.

“We think that putting all the events under one theme like the Czech Points in Seoul Festival will show the variety of Czech culture available while offering more than just the things that people know,” said Czech Republic Ambassador Jaroslav Olsa Jr.

As a cultural exchange program, the students from the Jan Hanus Music School received a grant from the Czech government and are coming to perform with OCYS.

The Czech Republic is preparing to mark the 60th birthday of the launch of Radio Free Europe broadcasts in Czech across the Iron Curtain to Czechoslovakia. The broadcasts were a key factor in telling people under communism not only what was really happening in their own country but also keeping them up to date about events in the West.

The Czech Foreign Ministry has established a new section of public diplomacy and the post of a commissioner for expatriate affairs within its reform, its representatives told CTK Thursday.

The power of culture can often be underestimated as a diplomatic tool, but cultural exchange can not only serve as a universal icebreaker, it can tear down walls and build bridges between the most hardened of enemies. It may not turn foes into instant friends, but it does allow nations to find points of commonality that transcend politics.
