The State Department announced major changes to the J-1 Summer Work and Travel Program in May and expanded a list of jobs that students should not be allowed to work. It was the latest in a series of steps to fix the program since The Associated Press reported in 2010 that abuses included participants working in strip clubs.
Among changes the State Department implemented was expanding a list of prohibited jobs to include manufacturing, construction and agriculture. The program also bans participants from working in the sex industry.
China and Thailand have agreed to exchange educational and cultural systems in which both countries will send language instructors to train children of their countries in preparations for the Asean Economic Community (AEC) which will kick off in 2015, said Education Minister Suchart Thada-Thamrongvech.

My own university has made an intentional effort to become home to some 8,000 international students...Such global diversity offers a meaningful learning laboratory not just for domestic students, but for international students who otherwise might be tempted to attend a relatively insulated American franchise in their home nation.
Countries project power and influence in a number of ways. Traditionally they do so through military and economic clout. But education matters too. Alumni of Australian universities and colleges can be strong advocates of our cause and even our interests. They understand us and a crucial phase of their lives was spent with us and learning from us. This is soft power but real power.
China is ready to work with the United States to advance people-to-people exchanges, Education Minister Yuan Guiren said prior to Vice-President Xi Jinping's visit to the US. People-to-people exchange is still an important driving force in today's increasingly close China-US relations.
