A public diplomacy team of Ethiopia will be dispatched to Cairo early next week to "take messages of friendship to the Egyptian people," said the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ethiopia has finalized preparations to send a public diplomacy delegation to Egypt next month, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.  Ethiopia and Egypt are in the middle of diplomatic rapprochement to narrow their differences over the construction of a multi-billion hydroelectric dam on the Nile.

The nation now most prone to such diplomatic pirouettes is the United States, still the world’s greatest power. Its strength has ever been defined, in important part, as idealism, “soft” power: belief in pluralism in politics, in free speech and a free press. These institutions are held to self-evidently good for a society: and the United States, with the European allies, has long preferred and rewarded those states which promise to follow that path.
