More than 100 high school students from China and the United States on Saturday gathered in the UN Headquarters in New York City to get a closer look at the organization through participating in an event known as Model United Nations.

The United Nations Club of Southern Oregon University and Ashland Peace House sponsored a two day conference Wednesday and Thursday entitled “Debunking the ‘Clash of Civilizations’: Understanding Islam, Islamophobia, and the Middle East,” a conference that featured speakers from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.

GSIS Model United Nations 2013 is underway at GSIS Main Campus, Islamabad, says a press release. The four-day event started on February 07, with the inauguration ceremony by the Secretary General, Hassan Abbas. GMUN Patron and GSIS Principal Qurat-ul-Ain Ali Rizvi while addressing the participants said: “The organisers have worked really hard for the GMUN. There are going to be great enthusiastic debating sessions, colourful activity of global village and social events.”

It is timely for Malaysia to integrate the Model United Nations (Model UN), an academic simulation of the UN, into its national school system as it could promote critical thinking among the younger generation, a UN official said.
