Ireland is to donate another €778,000 to Sierra Leone to help fuel a fleet of ambulances and burial vehicles in the Ebola-hit country.  It brings Ireland's total contribution in the affected countries in West Africa to over €18m in 2014. 

Ebola is wrecking years of health and education work in Sierra Leone and Liberia following their civil wars, forcing many charity groups to suspend operations or re-direct them to fighting the epidemic.

While health officials say they are making headway against the Ebola epidemic in neighboring Liberia, the disease is still raging in Sierra Leone, despite the big international push. In November alone, the World Health Organization has reported more than 1,800 new cases in this country, about three times as many as in Liberia, which until recently had been the center of the outbreak.

The first wave of volunteers from Britain’s National Health Service arrived in Sierra Leone Saturday amid what the World Health Organization has described as an “intense” surge in cases.

International Development Secretary Justine Greening says they have seen "an immense amount of progress" on the KerryTown field hospital, as she toured the site of the 92-bed treatment facility in Sierra Leone.

Japan would donate emergency vehicles and medical equipment worth $400,159.00 for Liberia and $397,749.00 for Sierra Leone to help combat the Ebola viral disease.

Britain made a plea for international help to deal with the world's worst Ebola outbreak at the start of a conference in London on Thursday, with one charity warning that five people are being infected with the virus every hour in Sierra Leone.
