Eritrean nationals residing in different cities in Italy held public diplomacy activities. At the congress in which over 600 members participated, two years activity report was presented and a new executive committee elected. Likewise, Eritreans residing in the cities of Napoli, Palermo, Catania and Bari conducted seminars on the objective situation in the homeland and the role of Eritrean nationals residing in the Diaspora.
Eritrean nationals residing in Washington DC and its environs, the USA as well as in Dubai, UAE, conducted seminars on national issues. At the seminar the nationals conducted in Washington DC expressed readiness to strengthen participation and contribution for the success of the national development programs. A high level Eritrean delegation led by Mr. Osman Saleh, Foreign Minister, conducted working visit to Finland from 25 to 30 August 2014. In the course of its visit the delegation has met with Foreign Minister MR. Erkki Tumoioja and Mr. Pekka Haavisto, Minister of International Development Cooperation and discussed bilateral and regional issues especially with regards educational cooperation and in the development of higher learning and vocational education.
Last Saturday, May 3, was annual World Press Freedom Day. This year, the state of press freedom is especially grim; journalists face imprisonment, kidnapping, and death for doing their jobs. “Unfortunately, we really don’t have a lot to celebrate,” said Joel Simon, executive director of the Committee to Protect Journalists.
