CPD CONTRIBUTIONS
Dr. Damien Spry researches and teaches in the fields of public diplomacy, digital diplomacy and intercultural communications. He holds faculty positions at Bond University and the University of Sydney (Australia) and Hong Kong University. He was previously an Assistant Professor at Hanyang University and a radio presenter in Seoul, and an Associate with Asialink, based at the University of Melbourne. Damien has published widely on public diplomacy, soft power and Asia for think tanks, mainstream press and academically, including the East and South East Asia overview in the Routledge Handbook on Soft Power (2017).
His expertise includes working cross-culturally and with diverse research teams. He has considerable experience in large multi-country research projects, and international comparative case studies, including in Asia. He is proficient in the use of computational research and analytical methods to identify and evaluate media and communications practices and content, including online and social media, which he typically pairs with qualitative methods (interviews, textual analysis) and contextual analysis.
Spry is based in Hong Kong and is in regular contact with a network of colleagues, experts and public diplomacy practitioners in the region.
