Sumaya Hussaini is a progressive degree student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Public Diplomacy at the University of Southern California. At USC, she has conducted research for Professor Alison Dundes Renteln on international human rights, the Security and Political Economy Lab on humanitarian aid allocation, and the Center for the Political Future on the 2020 Democratic primaries and caucuses.
Sumaya has completed internships with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the UN, and Accountability Council. She will be interning with the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Multilateral and Global affairs this summer.
She is interested in the intersection between armed conflict, foreign aid, and international humanitarian law, with a regional emphasis in the Middle East. After graduation, Sumaya hopes to join the foreign service, attend law school, or work in the humanitarian sector.
