Princess Diana Understood What ‘Global Britain’ Meant

So, ‘global Britain’ eh? This, we are told, will be the leitmotif for Theresa May’s Brexit speech tomorrow and, indeed, for her approach to international affairs more generally. And who could disagree with any of that? The argument will, of course, be couched in economic terms. The spirit of Britannia will be unleashed to sail the world’s oceans. Britain is back, you know.

Turkish News Channel Expands its Reach

Turkish news channel TRT has signed a new agreement to launch its international news platform, TRT World, on 10 additional satellites to expand its reach and viewership. [...] TRT World will be able to be viewed all over the world in new territories via Turksat and 10 additional major broadcast satellites operating across Europe, Middle East, Asia Pacific, Africa, Australia and America.

Singlish Songs Urge Hong Kong to Return Military Hardware to Singapore

As tensions over Hong Kong government's seizure of nine military vehicles from Singapore continues to escalate, Singaporean bloggers have turned the diplomatic incident into catchy ‘Singlish Songs’, humorously pleading Hong Kong and China to return their “Terrex Chia”. [...] YouTuber Alvin Oon's song, “Give Me Back My Terrex Chia”, went viral in the space of a few days. He introduced it on YouTube as “Song Diplomacy”.

Prasar Bharati Hosts International Television Dance Festival in Hyderabad

The first edition of Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) International Television Dance Festival is scheduled to be held in Hyderabad; the city with royal patronage for arts, literature and architecture, on January 15. Prasar Bharati is hosting the event. The Dance Festival is conceptualised so as to bring the cultural diversities from across the world into limelight, by breaking cultural barriers.

Tech Diplomacy? Taiwan’s President Tours Twitter

Taiwan’s president didn’t meet with President-elect Donald Trump during her closely watched U.S. stopover this weekend. But she did visit his favorite communication outlet. Tsai Ing-wen posted photos of her tour of Twitter Inc.’s headquarters in San Francisco on her verified account on the social-media site. It was her first tweet in more than two years, and it appeared directed to a global audience.

Chinese Troupe for Happy Spring Festival in Zimbabwe

A Chinese art troupe from Nanjing is set for its debut performance in the country tomorrow at 7 Arts Theatre Avondale, Harare as part of the Happy Chinese New Year commemorations. The event that is also known as the Happy Spring Festival, is being organised by the Chinese Embassy through its cultural section and will feature last year’s local Dream Star talent show finalists.

Creative Ireland Launches in NY

Heather Humphreys launched a new cultural initiative called Creative Ireland at the Irish Consulate in New York on Friday. [...] Creative Ireland is the government’s Legacy Program for Ireland 2016. It is a five-year all-of-government initiative, from 2017 to 2022, which at its core is a strategy which aims to improve access to cultural and creative activity in every county across the country and among the diaspora.

Myanmar Looks to Rebrand as a Destination for Foreign Tourists

Myanmar's hope of becoming a travel hub in Asia would be far from a reality if the nation fails to rebrand itself as a destination for international visitors, according to a panel discussion held on Friday. Tint Thwin, director-general of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, said now is time to focus on rebranding so that foreigners choose Myanmar as a place for leisure.
