This new video explores the history of the Venice Biennale, a 120-year-old international art festival held every two years in Venice, Italy. Also known as the “Olympics of Art,” this film takes viewers on a crash-course history of the artists, attitudes and individuals that have shaped and transformed the Biennale throughout the decades, including Mussolini, Hitler, Ruscha, Kandinsky and Ai Weiwei. Using a combination of interviews with artists, curators and visitors, as well as historical films and photographs, this video unpacks the rich history of the mega cultural event, and dares viewers to imagine what the world would have been like without it.
