The Jean Monnet Programme and EU Public Diplomacy

Yifan Yang, a doctoral student at King’s College London, has published an excerpt of his PhD project in the Journal of European Integration. The piece, Does the Academic Programme Work? The Jean Monnet Programme and European Union Public Diplomacy, unpacks the impact and efficacy of the aforementioned EU education diplomacy initiative in China, and in turn, evaluates its merits as a “toolbox of EU public diplomacy.” Yang outlines four key public diplomacy principles reflected by the organization and implementation of the Jean Monnet Programme in China. These elements include an emphasis on broadcasting and disseminating information, listening and building programs based upon audience interest, working with scholars that are viewed as credible sources of information, and participating in exchange programs that encourage cross-cultural dialogue.
