Philip Seib, professor at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, has written a review of Gregory M. Tomlin’s book Murrow’s Cold War: Public Diplomacy for the Kennedy Administration. The book focuses on the life and work of Edward R. Murrow, director of the United States Information Agency (USIA) under President John F. Kennedy. As one of the premier practitioners of what we today call public diplomacy, Murrow helped shape America’s image abroad in order to strengthen the U.S. position during the Cold War.
