The Future of Soft Power and Public Diplomacy

Soft power scholar and former Dean of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Joseph S. Nye, Jr., recently published a new article, "Soft Power and Public Diplomacy Revisited."

Nye's contribution is one of 12 articles that make up a special edition of The Hague Journal of Diplomacy focused entirely on public diplomacy, which aims to make sense of today's soft power challenges and what may be next.

The below video features some reflections by Nye on topics discussed in his essay, such as the future of soft power and the challenges that public diplomacy practitioners face in the modern global environment.

"The best propaganda is not propaganda," explains Nye in the video. "It's interactions in two-way conversations in flows, and I think that's the challenge for public diplomacy today."
