Russia's federal communications agency Roskomnadzor has signed an order on issuing a certificate of registration in Russia to US news channel CNN International, the agency's spokesman, Vadim Ampelonsky, said Thursday.

The Russian communications and media watchdog Roskomnadzor and representatives from CNN International have expressed an interest in resuming CNN broadcasting in Russia, the press release on the Roskomnadzor's website said Tuesday.

CNN International news channel, which withdrew from Russian cable networks from December 31, 2014, hopes to have talks on its coming back to Russia with Russia’s oversight authority in the sphere of the mass media (Roskomnadzor) before the end of January.

Russia’s federal oversight authority in the sphere of communication (Roskomnadzor) said on Monday it had nothing to do with CNN International’s decision to withdraw from Russian cable networks. “You’d better ask CNN shareholders why the channel stops its broadcasting in Russia,” Vadim Ampelonsky, a Rospomnadzor spokesperson, told TASS.
