Communication scholars Vanessa Bravo and María De Moya have published a new article that analyzes the relationship between the governments of El Salvador and Colombia and their diaspora communities.

Latin America’s Colombia and Turkey are sharing a mutual fate of ending decades-long conflict in their countries. According to experts, reconciliation in such processes could face obstacles, but with real commitment both sides can solve the problematic issues.

An array of young musicians from Colombia, Brazil, India, Zimbabwe, the U.S. and 12 other countries across the world are descending in the Bay Area this weekend in a free festival that celebrates unique sounds and collaborations.

Less than a decade ago, few ventured to the seaside village set against lush tropical forest and the Sierra Nevada mountains. Marxist rebels, paramilitary bands and narco-traffickers had the run of it. This was the bad-news Colombia of guerrilla wars and Pablo Escobar.  It is a nation far from perfect, with plenty of conflicts and problems, but on the mend and coming up.

It seems an impossible mission to achieve economic, social and cultural growth in a country bled dry by drug trafficking guerrillas such as FARC operating in the most productive regions and retaining violent influence in the main cities. But Colombia has been making it happen.
