Cultural Diplomacy

This is what is known as Syria Supper Club, in which Muslim refugees from Syria and Iraq join groups of mostly Jewish New Jerseyans for dinners that are part fundraiser, part cultural exchange. Women from the refugee families cook the elaborate feasts; the Americans host the meals. In January alone, 14 meals have been scheduled, all with different cooks.

For Seattle’s Asian community and beyond, public events for the Lunar New Year allow individuals to explore these questions for themselves. Between the Vietnamese festival Tết in Seattle at Seattle Center, a Lunar New Year Gala at the University of Washington and the Chinatown International District’s Lunar New Year festivities, there are plenty of opportunities for community members to get involved with the holiday and its traditions.

The theme of this year's expo is "Joint Prosperity of Asia through Cultural Exchange," and will display performances, exhibitions and symposiums at Ho Chi Minh City Hall plaza and nearby locations. It will be held from November 9 through December 2. More than 10,000 people from 40 countries will participate as performers.

The First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, will host and chair the African Women Intercultural Dialogue [...] The educative event put together by All Africa Media Network is to mark the 2017 International Women's Day Celebration in Africa.The intercultural dialogue will dissect negative cultural practices that condone violence against women and also deliberate with leaders of the social institutions that hinged on religious, cultural or social issues.

LADAMA is the kind of band that people tend to make assumptions about. [...] LADAMA will be performing at World Music/CRASHarts' second annual CRASHfest at the House of Blues in Boston on Saturday, Jan. 28. The quartet plays propulsive original music rooted in the folk traditions of their home countries, a kind of cross-continental musical exchange. But theirs is something of a feminist undertaking, too.
