Meridian International Centre and the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have launched Past Forward: Contemporary Art from the Emirates, a groundbreaking cultural diplomacy programme that brings Emirati artwork and artists to the United States.The exhibition tells the story of the UAE’s rich history, culture and rapid development through the works of 25 notable Emirati artists. Past Forward represents the first major touring exhibition of Emirati art in the world.

The hope of the #BringBackOurGirls protesters in Abuja that President Goodluck Jonathan would address them on Thursday was dashed as police officers formed a human barrier around the Eagles Square forcing the protesters to end their march there.The protesters, who were supposed to march from Unity Fountain, near Transcorp Hotel, Maitama, to the Presidential Villa could not get to their destination as police officers blocked all roads leading to the villa.

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to Turkish Cyprus is a historical step as it shows equal treatment to both sides and gives a positive message, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said.  During his visit to the divided island, Biden hailed Cyprus as a “key partner” and said its rival leaders had agreed to “speed up” efforts to end the 40-year division. Biden ended his visit, the highest level by a U.S. official to Cyprus since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1962, late on May 22.

A major exhibition by Emirati artists has opened in Washington DC, the first leg of an 18-month tour of the US. More than 50 works by 25 Emirati artists, selected to be accessible to American viewers, will also visit Texas, California and other places.
