Dionysos Alexiou holds a BA in Classics, a MA in Medieval Greek Literature, and a PhD from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki where his research focused on the reception of ancient Greek drama in contemporary dramaturgy. He has also successfully completed specialised courses in ‘Gallery/museum guide-Docent’, in ‘Copy Editing and Proofreading’, in ‘Cultural Diplomacy’ and ‘Management of Arts Organizations’. He has also worked on educational campaigns that took place in developing countries involving the repatriation of stolen artifacts to their rightful country of origin as well as combating illicit art traffic. He has had various lecturer positions at the University of Cyprus and University of Nicosia, as well being involved at the Harvard University, Centre for Hellenic Studies as a postdoctoral researcher, and recently as a research fellow at the University of Southern California, Center on Public Diplomacy. His research interests focus on the reception of ancient Greek drama, intercultural education, arts management, cultural diplomacy, corporate cultural diplomacy, international relations etc. Dionysos has been working as an Associate to the Office of the President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus for 5 years, where, among other responsibilities (various projects: research, symposium, conferences, bilateral/trilateral meetings, observing and reporting parliamentary committees sessions etc.) he was Parliamentary Representative/ Coordinator of the Committee on Literature, Arts and Quality Education, and the Committee of Cultural Heritage; both aforementioned committees belong to the “Parallel Parliament” initiative. Lastly, since September 2023 he has been appointed as an Executive Director for “Foundation for Parliamentarism and Participatory Democracy”, of the House of Representatives, Republic of Cyprus.
