Gordon Robison is a journalist with 17 years of experience working in and writing about the Middle East. He has lived in Amman, Jordan, Cairo, Egypt and Alkhobar, Saudi Arabia. Robison covered the Iraq war and its aftermath as a correspondent and producer for CNN in Jordan and Kuwait and led a CNN convoy that drove from Kuwait City to Baghdad departing only hours after U.S. troops entered the Iraqi capital. He later worked in Baghdad as a producer for Fox News and as a contractor for the Coalition Provisional Authority, overseeing the news department at Iraqi television.
Robison's work has appeared in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Miami Herald, The Washington Times, The Irish Times, The Financial Times and The Sunday Times (London). He was a Cairo-based correspondent for ABC Radio News from 1989-94 and held a variety of positions with CNN International, based at the network’s Atlanta headquarters, from 1996-2003, finishing his career there as a Senior Producer.
He is the author of Arab Gulf States: A Travel Survival Kit, published by Lonely Planet, co-author of Lonely Planet’s Middle East on a Shoestring, and a contributor to several other guidebooks published by Lonely Planet and by Britain’s Which? Publications.
