Jose is a graduate student in the Master of Public Diplomacy program at USC. Originally from Peru, he migrated to Los Angeles and graduated from CalState Dominguez Hills with a B.A. in digital media arts and music.
Jose brings to CPD 8 years of experience working for the entertainment industry in cities like Los Angeles, New York and Sydney. He currently runs an independent record label—Sweet Tiger Records—and works for Warner Music Group's publishing division. Jose also brings vast volunteer experience that includes music workshops with the mentally disabled in Peru, fundraising for Amnesty International and humanitarian support at the U.S./Mexico border.
An avid traveler, Jose has visited many countries around the world where he has collaborated with street musicians and has worked on field audio recordings. He has a passion for cultural exchange and is a firm believer that music is one of public diplomacy's best tool for communication and empowerment.
At CPD, Jose works on providing assistance with CPD publications, including the CPD Blog, the CPD Perspectives series, CPD reports and policy briefs, and social media. He also provides writing and graphic design assistance for CPD's multimedia and PD Hub features.
Jose's academic focus is in music/audiovisual diplomacy and cultural exchange with Latin America and stateless nations around the world. After graduation, he hopes to land a career at the U.S. State Department or at a nonprofit/international organization that focuses on human rights.
