Obama and African Leaders to Discuss U.S. Funding for HIV/AIDS
When African leaders arrive in Washington this week to meet with President Obama, one of the most politically sensitive issues expected to be discussed is the future of the U.S. commitment to global efforts to deal with HIV/AIDS. For more than a decade, the United States has taken the lead in this fight, providing significant funding — $52 billion so far — to the cause through a program known as the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
Netanyahu Devises an Exit Strategy, With a Touch of Risk Management
Last night, Netanyahu continued his policy of minimizing risk as he signaled the end of Operation Protective Edge. Choirs from Mexico, Texas Join Voices for Concert
The young men doing the serenading are part of the Mexico Boys Choir, which travels to Fort Worth every summer in a musical and cultural exchange with the Texas Girls’ Choir. In their homeland, the boys are known as the Estudiantina Guadalupana Potosina. The youngsters have been involved in the exchange for more than two decades.
Two Americans Held in North Korea Plead for Help from US
Authorities say they are preparing to bring the men before a court, but the charges or potential punishment have not been specified. The date of the trial has not been announced. North Korea has in the past been accused of using arrested Americans as diplomatic bargaining chips.
Ambassador to Russia Is Confirmed
Before leaving on its recess, the Senate confirmed John F. Tefft as the United States’ ambassador to Russia, filling a post that had been vacant since February, when a frayed relationship between the two countries began to deteriorate further over the separatist uprising in Ukraine.
