Joëlle Uzarski Joins CPD as Public Diplomat in Residence

The USC Center on Public Diplomacy is pleased to welcome U.S. Department of State Diplomat Joëlle Uzarski as our new U.S. Public Diplomat in Residence for the 2020–22 term.

Joëlle Uzarski joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 2005 and has served at the U.S. embassies in Brazil, Chile, India, Pakistan and Thailand, where she directed State Department educational and cultural programs in 19 countries. In 2005–06, she was Program Officer for the English Access Microscholarship Program. Founded in 2004, this worldwide exchange program promoted by the U.S. Department of State is designed to enhance English language capabilities of economically disadvantaged adolescents, providing access to greater opportunities in education and employment. Uzarski's most recent assignment was Cultural Attaché in Brasilia.

Prior to her work as a diplomat, she was a State Department Senior English Language Fellow in Uzbekistan. She has significant experience directly working in education, training teachers and teaching students in Korea, Brazil and Spain.

About the U.S. Public Diplomat in Residence

Established in 2005 by joint agreement between the USC Center on Public Diplomacy and the office of the U.S. Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, the U.S. Public Diplomat in Residence is a one-year detail assignment for one Senior Foreign Service Public Diplomacy Officer. While in residence at the Center, the U.S. Public Diplomat in Residence teaches at least one course in the USC Master of Public Diplomacy program and engages in individualized program research and writing for the Center's publication series as well as outreach to students and the academic community on matters related to public diplomacy. The U.S. Public Diplomat in Residence program is unique to the University of Southern California.
