Barry Sanders, CPD Advisory Board member, writes article on sports and public diplomacy

In CPD Advisory Board member Barry Sanders' article, "Sports and Public Diplomacy" he writes that America's greatest foreign policy challenge is combating violent extremism. Sports and public diplomacy can offer the growing population of youth around the world, whether or not connected to an extremist organizations or philosophies, an alternative to violent activity.

Sanders' goes on to suggest that the an object of sports and public diplomacy "must be to help give people, especially boys and young men, as sense of accomplishment and enjoyment that is otherwise lacking in their lives." Recommendations include the "establishment of local sports leagues a priority of American embassy officials around the world, and encourage of the national governing bodies of sports in the United States as well as our professional leagues to help make this effort a success".

The article is published in the Fall 2010 issues of M/E Insights, an Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel magazine.
