KEEP READINGJust Published, “Public Diplomacy and Soft Power in East Asia” by Jan Melissen and Sook
Jan Melissen, Head of the Diplomatic Studies Program at the Clingendael Institute of International Relations and Sook Jong Lee, President of the East Asia Institute, have just released a new volume, Public Diplomacy and Soft Power in East Asia by Palgrave Macmillan in the series on Global Public Diplomacy.
Soft power focuses on the ability of a nation to attract and engage foreign audiences. In their book, Melissen and Lee explore how East Asian nations, such as China, have made enhancing soft power a priority in their foreign ministries’ public diplomacy efforts, more so than even in the US or Europe.
The authors also stress the need to continue empirical measurement and assessment of this subject as it rises in popularity. Topics in this edited edition include insights from several authors on measuring soft power in East Asia, soft power and public diplomacy in Indonesia, complexities of economic soft power concerning US-China relations, and more.
