KEEP READINGNew CPD Report: International Broadcasting in the Social Media Era
Last March, CPD hosted our annual conference, with the theme "International Broadcasting in the Social Media Era." During this day-long event, public diplomacy scholars and broadcasters from organizations such as the BBC, CNN, and Radio Free Asia debated topics such as “Influencing and Being Influenced by Asia” and “Social Media and the Way Forward.”
CPD is pleased to present a conference report which summarizes the day’s discussions and highlights its key themes, particularly participation, transparency, and the journalist’s changing role in today’s rapidly evolving mediascape.
Panelists concluded that broadcasters must recognize the importance of citizen journalism, dialogue, and participation in modern broadcasting, while maintaining their own crucial role as curators of information in open societies, facilitating access to information in closed societies, and being consciously values-driven.
This report can serve as an important resource for public diplomacy practitioners, including broadcasters and policymakers in the areas of broadcasting, foreign policy, technology, and public diplomacy.
