Mangal Shobhajatra on Pahela Baishakh, a festival close to the hearts of Bangalis, has been inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The decision was made at the 11th session of the Inter-governmental Committee on Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia yesterday. 

There are many things that can unite Pakistan with Bangladesh and India. We have shared history, more or less common language, common heritage, literature, art, and culture. These commonalities can be enhanced through track II diplomacy, which in turn can be expanded and taken to another level through skilled diplomacy of leaders.

These images are taken from Refugee, an exhibition at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles. Five acclaimed photographers captured images in Bangladesh, Cameroon, Colombia, Croatia, Greece, Burma, Serbia and Slovenia of people forced from their homes and looking for safety and the possibility of starting new lives.

Exposure to technology itself allows young women a chance to develop technical skills, and open new career horizons. Bangladeshi Association for Life Skills, Income, and Knowledge for Adolescents (BALIKA), a randomised control trial, spearheaded by the Population Council throughout Bangladesh over the last three years, has proven that such models can work in delaying child marriage.
