A look into how the refugee crisis is being shaped by the new administration

A unique exchange programme that will connect Abu Dhabi schools with thousands of children from across the world was announced on Monday. The 'One School One Country' programme is part of WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017, the biggest vocational skills competition coming to the emirate in October this year.

The British High Commission has expressed the UK’s commitment to widen the scope of scholarship to Ghana to benefit more Ghanaians in future. Officially welcoming the beneficiaries of the Chevening Scholarship back to Ghana, at a ceremony in Accra, the British High  Commissioner to Ghana, said the UK government was proud of the initiative which had benefited more than 1,500 Ghanaians and many more people globally.

On Friday, January 27, 2017, President Donald Trump signed an executive order which bans entry of all refugees to the United States for 120 days, and which suspends entry for refugees, immigrants, dual nationals, and US permanent residents from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen for 90 days, or longer. [...] As such, the ISA strongly condemns any action by any government which prevents the free movement of scholars engaged in research on international affairs, or any other scholarly discipline.

Protecting our nation is one of the most important roles of the federal government, and we do need to be thoughtful about how to establish effective immigration polices. However, the broad-based nature of the ban flies in the face of decades of support for the power of international exchange. Even a foreign policy hard line approach would typically be softened by an ongoing support of international exchange.

Nigerian investors are also present in the ICT sector and private business, with a target of expanding investments to tourism, telecommunication, cultural exchanges, and oil and gas. In other partnerships, Nigeria has been offering support to Rwanda in training of military personnel.

Filipino historians, along with arts and culture professionals, discussed the need to revisit details and connections in history to further deepen relations in countries. The symposium, which was held in Ateneo de Manila University Ricardo Leong Hall and was organized by the Japan Foundation Manila, brought together Fukuoka Prize recipients in the Philippines to lecture on the relations between the two countries going way back to prehispanic times as trade partners.

President Tsai Ing-wen arrived Jan 12. in El Salvador on the final leg of her nine-day tour of four Republic of China (Taiwan) Central American diplomatic allies [...] According to Tsai, her visit is made in the spirit of mutual assistance, and she anticipates Taiwan and El Salvador jointly developing more plans and projects en route to expanding cultural, economic and people-to-people exchanges.
