Behind the film set, where she agreed to tell her story, awaits the refugee camp in Leros, Greece, that she is squatting in, biding her time until she will try to make her way further into Europe. [...] These visceral snippets of suffering and heartache are some of the stories chronicled in “Refuge,” a documentary film released Wednesday by production company Magna Carta.

China is the most welcoming country when it comes to refugees, according to a new survey of citizens’ attitudes published on Thursday, with Germany ranking second and Britain third. In its first ever report to record global acceptance of refugees, Amnesty International surveyed more than 27,000 people across 27 countries and found that 80 percent of respondents would welcome refugees into their city, neighborhoods or homes.

An international forum held in Barcelona this week provided representatives of civil society and local government a chance to tell their uplifting stories of effort [...] to receive and integrate refugees into their communities. Organised by the Public Diplomacy Council of Catalonia, the one-day event saw a series of experts, officials and activists give their accounts of schemes and initiatives to care for new arrivals and, in the process, cast a much more favourable light on Europe.

Global health diplomacy has been gaining importance and its negotiators need to be well-prepared. Some countries have added a full-time health attaché to their diplomatic staff, in recognition of the importance and complexity of global health deliberations. 

A Muslim charity will use advertisements on public buses across Britain to portray Islam in a positive light ahead of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, the charity group announced Monday. London's iconic double-decker red buses will use banners with messages "Subhan Allah", an Arabic phrase meaning "Glory be to Allah", in Latin script.

She would swim from Turkey to Greece for charity. Specifically, her own charity, Circle of Health International (COHI), a humanitarian aid nonprofit based out of Austin that works with women and their communities in times of crisis and natural disasters. Slowly, that idea became the seed for the group’s latest campaign “Go the Distance,” which aims to raise funds and awareness for the plight of refugee women across the world.

The German chancellor, Angel Merkel, has arrived in southern Turkey to inaugurate the EU aid programme for Syrians in the country, amid concerns that her visit validates Turkey’s creeping authoritarianism and overstates the EU’s humanitarian contribution to the Syrian crisis.
