Tara Ornstein is a global health professional specializing in global health diplomacy, international public health exchanges and the management of international research and service delivery programs. Through the Public Health Institute’s Global Health Fellows Program, Tara began to work as the Multilateral Advisor working at the U.S. Agency for International Development in 2017. In this role, Tara provides technical and policy guidance for issues related to the Global Fund, UNAIDS, donor coordination and program management, with an emphasis on data analysis and country support. Before moving to Washington, D.C., Tara worked as a senior program officer with ICAP at Columbia University where she supported HIV and tuberculosis treatment programs in Central Asia, Lesotho and Tanzania. From 2009 to 2015, Tara coordinated international research projects, including a clinical trial to assess a new regimen for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, as the TREAT TB Technical Officer at the International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. Previously, Tara spent a year researching HIV prevention in Yaroslavl, Russia on a fellowship jointly sponsored by the U.S. State Department and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She also participated in the U.S. State Department’s Critical Language Scholarship program for Persian, an experience that solidified her commitment to international exchanges.
