Mexican Publisher Rolls Out Spanish-Language Book Truck In San Diego

José Carreño Carlón, director of the Fondo de Cultura Económica, said the truck is meant to promote Spanish-language learning, especially among the children of Latin American families. [...] Jose Luiz Martinez, director of international affairs for the National Council for Culture and the Arts, said the book truck is an example of "cultural diplomacy."

Global Scholars Meet to Discuss the Fulbright Foreign Policy Legacy

The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and the Diane D. Blair Center of Southern Politics and Society will host 17 scholars from around the world Sept. 1-2 for the "J. William Fulbright in International Perspective: Liberal Internationalism and U.S. Global Influence" conference. During the two-day meeting, participants will discuss Fulbright's foreign policy legacy.

Pope Calls Migrant Deaths an Affront to Humanity

Pope Francis on Sunday decried the deaths of 71 migrants in an abandoned truck in Austria, calling it an offense against "the entire human family. We entrust each of them to the mercy of God," the pontiff said in Rome, calling on world leaders "to cooperate with effectiveness to prevent these crimes."

African Superstars, Bono In Campaign to Empower Women

African stars joined U2 frontman Bono on Friday in a campaign to use music to help empower women around the world. Bono and top African male musicians D'banj, Diamond and Banky W announced that they will be included in a remix of the song "Strong Girl," a rallying cry for women's empowerment which features top African female talent.
