French Foreign Ministry Establishes Religious Department

The foreign minister of France Bernard Kouchner has established a religious center in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is the first in France. He sees the origin of this creation as "an effect of globalization and the need for modernization of attitudes." He says the reflection for a consideration of religious settings was "poor" in the French diplomacy.

Culture Exchange: The British Council Turns 75

As the British Council celebrates its 75th anniversary and marks its 40th year in the UAE, staffs are busy sifting through entries for an international competition that encapsulates at least part of what the council tries to achieve. It is looking for a gifted young design entrepreneur who will represent the UAE at a 10-day international trade fair in London called 100% Design.

Hard Going Along Road to Recovery in Aceh

The US government decided it could best contribute to Aceh's reconstruction by making the road the focus of its efforts. Washington's feeling was that in addition to the road’s practical benefits, it would be a grand piece of public diplomacy to build closer ties with the region.

Barack Obama did not merely deliver speeches during his recent travels to Egypt and Ghana. YES Alumni Raise Money to Protect the Arabian Leopard

Hundreds of young Yemeni students have benefited from the English Access Microscholarship program and the Youth Exchange and Study Program sponsored by the US Department of State and administered by AMIDEAST. It is for non-elite Yemenis to take part in a 2-year program of English lessons, cultural awareness activities, and community service projects.

British Council Promotes Cultural Exchange

For the first time a group of Yemeni students have travelled to the UK and met their peers in person during the activities of the international competition World Youth Skill Challenge. The Challenge was arranged and organized by the Dinas Ysgol Bran School in Llangollen, which is the partner for Rabba’a Al Adawya and Bagdad schools in the British Council’s "Connecting Classroom" project.

Saudi Women Taking Part in Babson Forum

The first U.S-Saudi Women’s Forum on Social Entrepreneurship is made possible through a partnership with the global professional services firm ICF International, The Center for Women’s Leadership at Babson and The Wellesley Centers for Women at Wellesley College. The students have been designing seven different entrepreneurial projects aimed at addressing important social needs in Jeddah. Their projects will extend beyond the classroom and will be implemented into the students’ own communities.
