Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg showed off his language diplomacy skills in a special Mandarin Chinese Lunar New Year greeting. Joined by his wife Priscilla and their infant daughter Max, the couple wish viewers “health and prosperity” in the Lunar New Year (2016 is the year of the monkey), and detail how both Facebook and their family celebrated the holiday. Zuckerberg also used the video-taped greeting to unveil his daughter’s Chinese name: Chen Mingyu, “Chen after her mother’s family name and Mingyu represents our hope for a brighter tomorrow for the world.” The video is a powerful example of public diplomacy, showcasing both Zuckerberg's global role as a citizen diplomat and as a cultural mediator between American and Chinese audiences.
